There will also be pickin' around the Village that day. Lawn chairs are welcome. We always enjoy the wonderful music on Thursday nights with the Plectral Society and this annual festival is a great way to celebrate old-time music with this special event. Here is the press release:
All Aboard for the Casey Jones
Old-Time & Bluegrass Music Festival
(Jackson, TN) It's full steam ahead for a fun filled weekend at the Casey Jones Old-Time & Bluegrass Music Festival September 11th, brought to you by the Jackson Area Plectral Society and Casey Jones Village. Jammin' will also be throughout Casey Jones Village on the day of the event too.
Performances this year will again be held at the historic Casey Jones Home & Railroad Museum in the theatre of the 8,000 square foot "Train Station" expansion that opened in 2009. There is a nominal $5.00 admission on Saturday for the stage music that includes the full Casey Jones Museum tour.
The festival is sponsored by the Jackson Area Plectral Society, a non-profit 501 C-3 organization made up of musicians and supporters dedicated to the promotion and preservation of traditional old-time string music. Club president is John Few. Stage performances by Plectral Society members will include old-time bluegrass, old-time gospel and old-time mountain and folk music.
The group annually gives out scholarships to young musicians to further their studies for music lessons for acoustic instruments. Club members are also actively involved in volunteer and charity work all over West Tennessee and attend and play in bluegrass festivals throughout the region.
Casey Jones Village is located on the Highway 45 By-pass at I-40 exit 80A in Jackson, Tennessee.
