(Jackson, TN) Well, it's one for the money, two for the show, three to get ready, now go cat go! Everyone knows those famous lyrics penned by Jackson's own Carl Perkins. Jackson, Tennessee is rich in musical history as is the entire West Tennessee area. It literally is at the Crossroads of the I-40 Music Highway and Highway 45 Rock-a-billy Highway. The Old Country Store recently opened a new venue in celebration of the many genres of music that have hailed from this area. Music Highway Crossroads will celebrate their Grand Opening the 4th of July weekend. A ribbon cutting has been set for 10:30 am Friday, July 1st with the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors with a reception following and live music planned throughout the weekend.

The Old Country Store recently opened a new venue in celebration of the many genres of music that have hailed from this area. Music Highway Crossroads will celebrate their Grand Opening the 4th of July weekend. It is located in the Shoppes at Casey Jones Village adjacent to the Old Country Store and Casey Jones Museum. Co-owner Clark Shaw, Old Country Store CEO, said, "With Music Highway Crossroads we're celebrating the music of the Tennessee Delta and the artists who made it happen - Blues, Rock-a-billy, early Rock n Roll, Black and White Gospel, Country, R & B, Old-Time and Bluegrass. Iconic musical greats such as Carl Perkins, Sonny Boy Williamson, Elvis Presley, Eddie Arnold, Wink Martindale, Issac Hayes, Tina Turner, W.C. Handy, Denise LaSalle and others will be featured and plans are in development for museum quality exhibits to tell their stories, The museum exhibits are being carefully researched and designed and will likely be ready by August. Many important artists such are W.S. Holland, Carl Mann, Rayburn Anthony, Darryl Worley and Hank Williams, Jr. all call West Tennessee home and we want to accurately portray their musical contributions."
Music Highway Crossroads is managed by well known and highly regarded local musician Steve Patterson. Shaw said, "Steve has a great reputation as one of the region's best musical talents and has a real passion for showcasing and preserving the musical heritage of West Tennessee." Patterson noted, "We view this place as more of a "cultural center" than a museum and it will come to life regularly with our performance stage for local groups to entertain and guests to enjoy with free musical events each week Live from the Crossroads."
Grace Broadcasting's "Morning Praise" radio show with local radio veteran Tom Mapes is now broadcasting live on 97.7 FM from Music Highway Crossroads. The popular morning show airs from 8:00 am to 10:00 am Central Time Monday to Friday. More live programming from Grace is expected to be added in the coming weeks.
Shaw added, "Like food, music is an international language that bring people together. Music Highway Crossroads has something for locals as well as travelers from across the nation and around the world. Jackson is located between the two major music destinations of Memphis and Nashville making it an ideal location to feature the music and the artists who hailed from the heart of the West Tennessee Delta region. We already serve thousands of international guests and we plan to tie in museum packages to visit the historic Casey Jones Home & Railroad Museum and dining packages to the Old Country Store. We are planning on incorporating a number of events including dramatically expanding the use of the Casey Jones Village Amphitheatre, use of a nearly 200 year old historic antebellum home for house concerts, use of a century old country church for gospel sings and more. For many years, Casey Jones Village has served as a venue for old-time music with the Jackson Area Plectral Society that performs every Thursday and features over 70 musicians, the popular Songwriter's Depot country music show with WYN 106.9 FM that showcases Nashville's best songwriters, monthly performances by the Casey Jones Barbershop Chorus and Jackson Lady Barbershop chorus, quarterly Southern Gospel supper clubs plus outdoor concerts and special events at the Casey Jones Village Amphitheatre."
Music Highway Crossroads also features a retail shop designed by co-owner Juanita Shaw who was assisted by Nancy Jane Hall and features antiques and eclectic design touches. Everything for sale in the shop must be music themed. Clark Shaw concluded, "There has been a tremendous interest in our new project and we fully expect to grow the museum aspect substantially in the months and years ahead. Music Highway Crossroads mission is to honor and celebrate the history and heritage of the music of the West Tennessee Delta region and the talents of the musical artists who created the music. Historical, cultural and educational programs will be used to tell the story. Plans are also underway to form a non-profit arm to benefit the museum."
