Songs & Stories show to Debut October 11th at the Old Country Store

(Jackson, TN) Brooks Shaw's Old Country Store and Music Highway Crossroads have announced a partnership with local country music radio station Froggy 104 for a songwriter's evening called "Songs & Stories" that will be held the second Thursday evening of the month beginning October 11th. Well known singer/songwriters Phil O'Donnell, Jimmy Melton and Ash Bowers will perform on October 11th.

Songs & Stories will be held in the Barnside Room of the Old Country Store restaurant. Doors will open at 6:00 pm for a dinner hour. Dinner is not included in the price of the show. The performance begins at 7:00 pm and lasts until 8:30 pm. Tickets are $10.00 each and advance tickets can be purchased at Music Highway Crossroads located at 40 Casey Jones Lane in Casey Jones Village in Jackson, Tennessee. About the Workshops:
An Approach to Improvisation on Guitar and Mandolin
Tim May and Dan Miller (co-authors of the popular eight volume Flatpicking Essentials Guitar Course and the instructional DVD "An Approach to Improvisation"), will conduct a hands-on, all-level Guitar and Mandolin Improvisation Workshop.

The idea of learning how to improvise can be confusing and overwhelming. Tim May and Dan Miller's workshop will prove to you that it is much easier to improvise than you think, and now is the time to start learning, even if you are a beginner to guitar or mandolin! In the workshop Tim and Dan teach an approach to improvisation that will put you on the road to improvising a solo on a song in a very short amount of time. The method that they teach and the skills that you will learn in this workshop will help really demystify improvisation. In fact, no matter what your current ability level, you will be improvising by the end of this workshop, even on a song that you have never heard before! If you are already an accomplished improvisational player this workshop can help take your abilities to the next level. If you are new to improvisation, this workshop will give you confidence in taking that big step to becoming an improvisational player. Each student will be given several opportunities to play for, and get direct feedback from, the instructors.

Speed, Accuracy, and Tone Workshop
Dan Miller, editor of Flatpicking Guitar Magazine and co-author of the popular eight volume Flatpicking Essentials Guitar Course, and co-author of the book "The Guitar Player's Guide to Developing Speed, Accuracy, and Tone, will conduct a two-hour all-level flatpicking guitar workshop that will focus on how to use efficient left and right hand technique and mechanics to increase speed, improve note clarity and fluidity, and develop good tone and volume. Dan said, "After interviewing over 200 professional guitar players for Flatpicking Guitar Magazine I took all of the information that I had gathered about developing speed, accuracy, and tone and worked with my good friends Brad Davis and Tim May to develop a book, DVD, and workshop presentation that would help players of all levels break through playing barriers and improve their tone, volume, speed, fluidity, and note accuracy."

About the Instructors:
Tim May is the kind of guy everyone likes. He's humorous, humble, easy-going, and fun to be around. He's also a very accomplished guitar player, singer, and songwriter—and one of Nashville's acoustic guitar "go-to guys". For fifteen years Tim focused on his job as the guitar player for the Nashville-based bluegrass band Crucial Smith. When that band broke up in 2002 the job offers started pouring in. Recent highlights include touring with Patty Loveless, touring with Eddie Rabbit, touring Japan with John Cowan, playing on the all-star Rounder project Moody Bluegrass (and performing with the Moody Blues band at the Ryman Auditorium), performing on the Grand Ole Opry dozens of times with Mike Snider, and recording a bluegrass gospel project with Charlie Daniels. Additionally, FGM Records has released Tim''s solo CD "Find My Way Back" and Tim is also featured in a new FGM Records concert DVD, "Live in Kansas City," with Brad Davis and Cody Kilby. While there are plenty of great guitar pickers in Nashville, Tim May adds great songwriting and singing to his list of many talents, which include being equally adept at resonator guitar, banjo, and mandolin. When he is not on the road or in the recording studio Tim works building and repairing stringed instruments. He is also the co-author of the eight-volume Flatpicking Essentials book/CD series and co-instructor on three instructional DVDs for guitar.

Dan Miller has been the publisher and editor of Flatpicking Guitar Magazine since 1996. He has also co-authored a number of flatpicking books, including: "The Bluegrass Guitar Style of Charles Sawtelle" with Charles Sawtelle, "Flatpicking the Blues" with Brad Davis, "The Guitar Player's Guide to Developing Speed, Accuracy and Tone" with Brad Davis, and the Eight Volume flatpicking course "Flatpicking Essentials" with Tim May. Dan Miller and Tim May have also produced three instructional DVDs for guitar players: "Improving Speed, Accuracy, and Tone," "Creating Solos," and "An Approach to Improvisation." Tim May and Dan Miller also have been performing in a trio with their good friend Brad Davis (Davis Miller May) since 2005 and have been performing together as a duo since 2007.

Jackson Area Plectral Society Votes to Remain in Casey Jones Village Year Round

(Jackson, TN) On behalf of Casey Jones Village, Clark Shaw, CEO of Brooks Shaw's Old Country Store, is pleased to announce that the Jackson Area Plectral Society has voted to remain in the Village on Thursday evenings during the Winter months instead of going to a local church for their weekly club meetings. They will be playing their famous old-time music inside during the colder weather at the Old Country Store, Music Highway Crossroads on the stage where Carl Perkins began his career in the 1940's and at Casey Jones Home & Railroad Museum. Shaw said that the members were excited to perform at the Train Station at Casey Jones Museum, which is a unique local venue where the community will be invited to enjoy the music and see a great Museum. The president of the Society is Donald Horne.

Shaw said, "We are so very pleased that the Plectral Society has chosen to make us their year round home. Our local, national and international guests love the live local music. The Society members are tremendously talented and we love sharing this slice of Americana with our guests. It's a perfect match for us. We strive to be a musical cultural center for West Tennessee and knowing that they will be here weekly year round is an outstanding addition to our Winter season."

The Jackson Area Plectral Society has been playing on Thursday evenings from April to October outside the Old Country Store for over 25 years and hold their annual fall festival in Casey Jones Village. It is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of old-time string music. Members participate in open-air jams composed of fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo, dulcimer, bass, dobro, harmonica and any non-electric instrument that preserves the sanctity of old-time string music. Great Festival Around the Bend September 10th!

All Aboard for the Casey Jones Old-Time Music, Art & Quilt Festival September 10th

(Jackson, TN) It's full steam ahead for a fun filled Saturday at the Casey Jones Old-Time Music, Art & Quilt Festival September 10th from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. The festival is sponsored by the Jackson Area Plectral Society and Casey Jones Village. This year activities will again be held in "downtown" Casey Jones Village with stage performances on Saturday in the beautiful theater inside Casey Jones Museum, local art with the Art in the Village gallery and a quilt show highlighting local quilters designs.

Festival admission is $5.00 and includes a tour of the historic Casey Jones Home & Railroad Museum. Those wishing to see the bands perform can purchase a ticket at Casey Jones Museum and those wishing to view the quilt show can begin at Grace Bible Fellowship located next to the Museum. There will be art activities at Art in the Village and jamming or shade tree pickin' with the Plectral Society throughout the day.

The festival is sponsored by the Jackson Area Plectral Society, a non-profit 501 C-3 organization made up of musicians and supporters dedicated to the promotion and preservation of traditional old-time string music. Club president is Don Horne. Club members are actively involved in volunteer and charity work all over West Tennessee and attend and play in music festivals throughout the region.

Updated August 26th, 2011: The Rush of Fools concert was canceled earlier this month by Glorious Soundz Productions. Just wanted to make certain everyone is aware that it will not be held on Sunday, August 28th, 2011.

Gospel Supper Club will be held in the Old Country Store restaurant on Thursday, September 1st at 6:30 pm featuring Southern Gospel music from the Barnett Family from Stanton, TN.

Festivities Announced

(Jackson, TN) Well, it's one for the money, two for the show, three to get ready, now go cat go! Everyone knows those famous lyrics penned by Jackson's own Carl Perkins. Jackson, Tennessee is rich in musical history as is the entire West Tennessee area. It literally is at the Crossroads of the I-40 Music Highway and Highway 45 Rock-a-billy Highway. The Old Country Store recently opened a new venue in celebration of the many genres of music that have hailed from this area. Music Highway Crossroads will celebrate their Grand Opening the 4th of July weekend. A ribbon cutting has been set for 10:30 am Friday, July 1st with the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors with a reception following and live music planned throughout the weekend.

It is located in the Shoppes at Casey Jones Village adjacent to the Old Country Store and Casey Jones Museum. Co-owner Clark Shaw, Old Country Store CEO, said, "With Music Highway Crossroads we're celebrating the music of the Tennessee Delta and the artists who made it happen - Blues, Rock-a-billy, early Rock n Roll, Black and White Gospel, Country, R & B, Old-Time and Bluegrass. Iconic musical greats such as Carl Perkins, Sonny Boy Williamson, Elvis Presley, Eddie Arnold, Wink Martindale, Issac Hayes, Tina Turner, W.C. Handy, Denise LaSalle and others will be featured and plans are in development for museum quality exhibits to tell their stories, The museum exhibits are being carefully researched and designed and will likely be ready by August. Many important artists such are W.S. Holland, Carl Mann, Rayburn Anthony, Darryl Worley and Hank Williams, Jr. all call West Tennessee home and we want to accurately portray their musical contributions."

Music Highway Crossroads is managed by well known and highly regarded local musician Steve Patterson. Shaw said, "Steve has a great reputation as one of the region's best musical talents and has a real passion for showcasing and preserving the musical heritage of West Tennessee." Patterson noted, "We view this place as more of a "cultural center" than a museum and it will come to life regularly with our performance stage for local groups to entertain and guests to enjoy with free musical events each week Live from the Crossroads."

Grace Broadcasting's "Morning Praise" radio show with local radio veteran Tom Mapes is now broadcasting live on 97.7 FM from Music Highway Crossroads. The popular morning show airs from 8:00 am to 10:00 am Central Time Monday to Friday. More live programming from Grace is expected to be added in the coming weeks.

Shaw added, "Like food, music is an international language that bring people together. Music Highway Crossroads has something for locals as well as travelers from across the nation and around the world. Jackson is located between the two major music destinations of Memphis and Nashville making it an ideal location to feature the music and the artists who hailed from the heart of the West Tennessee Delta region. We already serve thousands of international guests and we plan to tie in museum packages to visit the historic Casey Jones Home & Railroad Museum and dining packages to the Old Country Store. We are planning on incorporating a number of events including dramatically expanding the use of the Casey Jones Village Amphitheatre, use of a nearly 200 year old historic antebellum home for house concerts, use of a century old country church for gospel sings and more. For many years, Casey Jones Village has served as a venue for old-time music with the Jackson Area Plectral Society that performs every Thursday and features over 70 musicians, the popular Songwriter's Depot country music show with WYN 106.9 FM that showcases Nashville's best songwriters, monthly performances by the Casey Jones Barbershop Chorus and Jackson Lady Barbershop chorus, quarterly Southern Gospel supper clubs plus outdoor concerts and special events at the Casey Jones Village Amphitheatre."

Music Highway Crossroads Opens in Casey Jones Village

(Jackson, TN) Go cat go! Everyone knows those lyrics and there's no mistaking that Jackson, Tennessee is rich in musical history as is the entire West Tennessee area. It literally is at the crossroads of the I-40 Music Highway and the Highway 45 Rock-a-billy Highway. In celebration of the many genres of music that have hailed from this area, the Old Country Store has opened a new venue called "Music Highway Crossroads" just in time for the Memorial Day weekend.

It is in the Shoppes at Casey Jones Village adjacent to the Old Country Store and Casey Jones Museum. The 2,000 square foot space will be multi-functional. It has a strong retail component and offers custom locally branded items with a musical theme exclusively for the store and reflective of the West Tennessee music heritage.

Owner Clark Shaw said, "With Music Highway Crossroads, we are celebrating the music of the Tennessee Delta and the artists who made it happen ~ the Blues, Rock-a-billy, early Rock-n-Roll, Gospel, Country, R & B, Old-time and Bluegrass music. Iconic musical greats such as Carl Perkins, Sonny Boy Williamson, Elvis Presley, Eddie Arnold, Wink Martindale, W.S. Holland, Issac Hayes, Tina Turner and Denise LaSalle will be featured and plans are in development for museum quality exhibits to tell their stories. The list could go on and on of famous musical artists from the West Tennessee area like Carl Mann and Rayburn Anthony to name a few. This project has been envisioned for more than three years and we hope that it will be so well received that we will be expanding the space as the public reception allows. We are developing wonderful relationships with other music museums in Memphis who have agreed to loan us items on an ongoing basis."

It was filled with huge country music hit after hit written by singer/songwriters Jimmy Melton, Casey Beathard and Phil O'Donnell. The crowd enjoyed singing along at different points in the show which was really neat. Our talented artists were really funny too and are so talented and gifted musically. WYN 106.9 and the Old Country Store are gearing up for the this month's Songwriter's Depot Live at the Old Country Store in Casey Jones Village. The next show is Thursday, April 28th with dinner hour at 6:00 pm and the songwriter's show is at 7:00 pm. Our guests this month are the incredibly talented Jimmy Melton, Casey Beathard, and Phil O'Donnell. This show will be full of the hits they've written such as "The Boys of Fall" and "Don't Blink" for Kenny Chesney, "Real" by James Wesley, "She Was" by Mark Chesnutt, "She Won't Be Lonely Long" by Clay Walker and "Sounds Like Life to Me" by Darryl Worley. Attention music lovers! Bring your lawn chairs to the Casey Jones Village Amphitheatre on Saturday, April 16th from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm for the first annual Cancer Research Institute of West Tennessee Music Fest. Come enjoy local talents Steve Patterson of Half Past Memphis, The OK Chorale Band, Paula Bridges and the Bandstand Band, Sorghum Hill Band, the Morgan Briar Bluegrass band and more!

There will also be crafts from local artisans and BBQ from the Old Country Store. Price of admission is only $7.00 for adults and $3.00 for kids 5 and up and tickets are also good for free admission to the Casey Jones Home & Railroad Museum the day of the festival. All ticket sales will go to benefit the Cancer Research Institute located in downtown Henderson. So come enjoy great music, delicious food and crafts and help us fight a worldwide epidemic locally. Mark your calendars for April 16th from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Casey Jones Village Amphitheatre.

Backstory:
The Cancer Research Institute of West Tennessee, located in downtown Henderson, was founded by Dr. Jerry Thornthwaite. He has devoted his clinical research to improving cancer patient care through laboratory procedures to individualize a patient's diagnosis, treatment and follow-up monitoring. He has established oncology laboratories at Cedars Medical Center and Baptist Hospital in Miami, Florida. He also discovered the Natural Killer Cell in 1971, which has now become the cornerstone for our surveillance defense mechanism against the survival of cancer cells. The CRIWT's research is unique in that it develops diagnostic, prognostic, monitoring and treatment protocols for cancer patients on an individual basis. Customized protocols may be developed using these procedures to more accurately diagnosis a patient's tumor and prescribe the proper treatment. Songwriter's Depot Rolls into Casey Jones Village March 24th

(Jackson, TN) WYN 106.9 is gearing up for the next Songwriter's Depot live from the Old Country Store in Casey Jones Village. The acoustic country music show will be held on Thursday, March 24th at 7:00 pm with the Supper hour beginning at 6:00 pm.

This month's musical guests are Jamie Teachenor, Bryan Simpson and Jay Knowles. The show will feature the many hits they've written such as "She'll Leave You With a Smile" for George Strait, "I'll Just Hold On" by Blake Shelton, and "How Do You Get That Lonely" by Blaine Larsen.
