Updated February 26th, 2010: It was a magical night at Songwriter's Depot February 25th as we welcomed two incredibly talented songwriters extraordinaire to the Depot stage ~ Victoria Shaw & Gary Burr. The show was fantastic and Victoria and Gary are immensely talented and genuinely nice folks. They both have amazing careers and are such interesting people. Happy Birthday to Gary today! Victoria asked if we could surprise Gary on stage with a dessert last night and he loved the hot fudge cake. Thank you to Shane for having them join us for the first time at Songwriter's Depot. We hope they come back again and again....

(Jackson, TN) The WYN 106-9 Songwriter's Depot is live from the Old Country Store in Casey Jones Village on Thursday, February 25^th at 7 pm with the Dinner Hour beginning at 6 pm. This month's acoustic show welcomes two of Nashville's most respected writers to the Depot stage – Victoria Shaw and Gary Burr. Shaw wrote for and toured with Garth Brooks while Burr was a lead vocalist for Pure Prairie League and also plays guitar for Carole King.

Their songwriting credits include: "The River" & "She's Every Woman" for Garth Brooks, "I Love the Way You Love Me" for John Michael Montgomery, "Too Busy Being in Love" by Doug Stone, "Outside My Window" by Sarah Buxton, "I Try To Think About Elvis" by Patty Loveless and numerous other major hits (see list below).

Songwriter's Depot is a monthly musical event where guests enjoy dinner in the Barnside Room at the Old Country Store and then listen audience style to a live acoustic show by some of the country's finest songwriters who come in for the evening from Nashville. Admission is only $10 at the door. Dinner is not included in the cover charge. Reservations can be made by calling WYN 106-9 at 731-427-9616. Note re Songwriter's Depot:   Summer is so busy and fun we're taking one more month off but will be back with a great fall show on Thursday, September 24th!!

Updated June 26th, 2009: It may have been 100 degrees outside but it was indeed one cool show with three of Nashville's finest singer/songwriters in the house for our June Songwriter's Depot show at the Old Country Store. Many thanks to Jimmy Melton, Kerry Kurt Phillips and Neal Coty who filled in at the last minute for Phil O'Donnell. It was a hit from start to finish. Many thanks to all our talented artists and Shane Connor with WYN 106.9 for producing another fantastic show!  It was wonderful!   Our next show will be August 27th. We are on hiatus in July as WYN sponsors a benefit show with Darryl Worley at Bumpus Harley-Davidson July 21st for the Darryl Worley Foundation. It's sure to be a wonderful event.

One of West Tennessee's favorite artists, Jimmy wrote "She Was" for Mark Chesnutt, "Every Friday Afternoon" for Craig Morgan and "I'm One of You" for Hank Williams, Jr. He has written songs for such country stars as George Jones, Blake Shelton and Dierks Bentley. Pull out your lawn chair from storage after a long cold winter and bring it to the Old Country Store next Thursday as we welcome back the Jackson Area Plectral Society. You will love sitting around and enjoying one of the most unique musical events in the South on the front porch of the Old Country Store as the Plectral Society meets for their weekly jam. Posted March 27th, 2009: Wow! What an evening! Talk about incredible....we enjoyed a wonderful show with Rebecca Lynn Howard at this month's Songwriter's Depot. Her friend, Rachel Thibodeau, was not able to be with us at the last minute, but Rebecca did an outstanding job and shared her amazing talent with us as a singer, songwriter and musician. One of Kimberie's Helton's vocal students, nine year old Abbie Bayless, (who is a big fan of Rebecca Lynn's) was asked by her to come on stage and sing a song together to close out the show. It was a real hit! See their picture below. Rebecca Lynn told Abbie if she ever needs an opening act to give her a call. Many thanks as always to Shane for a wonderful job producing Songwriter's Depot. Next month we welcome West Tennessee favorite and country music artist Whitney Duncan!

Posted February 26th: Tonight's Songwriter's Depot was a packed house as we enjoyed a fun night and fantastic show from Ash Bowers, David Lee Murphy and Kim Tribble. So much talent in one room. It was a lot of fun. We look forward to Ash Bower's new CD release with Broken Bow Records. He's a star and we wish him well. The rest of the country is sure to discover this talented young man very soon. David Lee Murphy and Kim Tribble have a string of hits and it was a treat to hear so many of them live. Ash is writing with them and is a fine fine songwriter himself. Another great night of live music at the OCS. Information on the March show below.

Jackson Live - Friday night, February 29th, 2009!

Here is some more information on Brandon (pictured above fourth from left):   Brandon Goff is an up and coming composer with an often dramatic and always distinctive voice. He has been the recipient of numerous awards including the Arnold Sallop Prize for Composition, the Smit Award and the Arkansas State Graduate Composer Award. He was also named a finalist in the BMG Young Composers competition and the ASCAP Morton Gould competition. His music has been widely performed in the United States as well as Europe and Asia. Holding degrees from Arkansas Sate University, Goff earned his D.M.A from the University of Memphis. He is also a prolific performer and producer and owns the Poppsycho Studios, a Memphis based independent record label. Goff is currently on Faculty at Lambuth University here in Jackson where he is the Director of the Entertainment Music Industries program.

Our three multi-talented artists put on a fantastic show with mega hits and memorable moments. It was so much fun. Many thanks to our musical guests who shared their incredible talents with us and to the producer of the show Shane Connor. It was phenomenal!

Songwriter's Depot To Kick Off 6th Season

(Jackson, TN) Songwriter's Depot is full steam ahead to kick-off the 6th season of the popular show Thursday, January 22nd at the Old Country Store. The dynamic line-up features three stellar singer/songwriters ~ Wynn Varble, Jamie Teachenor and Monty Holmes ~ who between them have penned instant classics such as "Have You Forgotten", "Waitin on a Woman" & "Trobadour" recorded by the biggest names in country music like Darryl Worley, Brad Paisley and George Strait.

Each month on the 4th Thursday, Songwriter's Depot offers an outstanding night of musical entertainment featuring dinner hour at 6 pm followed by an acoustic show in the round featuring legendary songwriters from Nashville to Muscle Shoals performing songs they have penned and telling the story behind the song. It is produced by Shane Connor, Operations Manager of WYN 106.9, and sponsored by Dwain Seaton Ford.

The cover charge for the show is $10.00 per person. Dinner is not included in the price of the show. Reservations are required and can be made by calling WYN 106.9 at 731.427.9616.

Posted January 9th, 2009: Our first "Jackson Live" debuted tonight with a wonderful show! It was a great evening of Jackson music starring the legendary Rayburn Anthony, Jason & Carly Fitts and Jimmy D. Taylor. Everyone had a toe-tapping good time and it was a historic premier performance for this first show at the Old Country Store. Many thanks to Rayburn Anthony & Steve Bowers for this exciting new event showcasing Jackson music and the remarkable talents of Rayburn Anthony and his friends. Tonight featured Rayburn's own grandson, Jason, who is a gifted singer and guitarist along with his wife Carly. Jimmy D. Taylor was fun to watch and was fantastic on the harmonica. This dynamic team will be bringing us shows from the Old Country Store Barnside Room on Friday nights beginning January 9th. Please note: There will not be a show on Valentine's weekend due to a previously scheduled event.

We are honored to work with Rayburn and Steve on this project. As you know, we are totally dedicated to supporting live music and local musical heritage and think this will be a great venue for showcasing Jackson's rich musical heritage and talent. See the official press release below:

Announcing “Jackson Live” At the Old Country Store Beginning January 9th

Jackson, TN – January 2009 Rayburn Anthony Productions, along with Dixie Fried Music.com, have joined efforts to produce “Jackson Live” each Friday night beginning January 9th, 2009 at the Old Country Store.

The live, primarily acoustic style show, will be made available through the soon to be launched DixieFriedMusic.com to an international audience through streaming Internet.

Presented from the dining room stage at Jackson’s Old Country Store in Casey Jones Village, the show will provide a performance showcase for talented writers/performers from West Tennessee and other areas connected to the region's rich musical heritage.

Weekly performances by Rayburn Anthony will anchor the show, hosted by DixieFried’s Steve Bowers.

“There are many talented people from this area,” noted Anthony, “and we feel this setting is a great one for a relaxed, intimate and entertaining musical show.”

Brooks Shaw's Old Country Store "Barnside" dining room is the site each month for a very successful Nashville songwriters showcase hosted by Shane Connor from WWYN-106.9 FM. That monthly show continues to draw top Nashville writers to a setting that many of them rate the best songwriter’s showcase in the country.

“The Old Country Store & Casey Jones Village is one of Tennessee’s most visited sites,” noted Bowers. “It already has established an excellent music atmosphere with the monthly Songwriters Showcase and its weekly hosting of the Plectral Society. We feel fortunate to be able to work with Clark Shaw and the Old Country Store in presenting this show.”

Shaw said, "Rayburn Anthony is a great talent with an extraordinary history going back to Sun Records. Steve Bowers involvement in the community is extraordinary also. We are very pleased that they have chosen the Old Country Store as the host site of their new show."

What a wonderful night we enjoyed Thursday at an extra special December edition of Songwriter's Depot! Normally we don't have a December show due to the 4th Thursday schedule but this year we did and had a really great time with amazing singer/songwriters from Nashville. Entertaining us were three top notch talents ~ Jimmy Melton (who hails from nearby Henderson), Songwriter Hall of Famer Roger Murrah and Neal Coty. Special guest Ash Bowers took the stage for a couple of numbers too which was a real treat especially since Ash is from Jackson. Many thanks to show producer Shane Connor with WYN 106.9 for another stellar year of Songwriter's Depot shows!

Jimmy Fortune was the tenor singer for the legendary group The Statler Brothers and wrote such hits as Elizabeth, Too Much On My Heart, More Than A Name on a Wall and many more! Also appearing will be hit writer Kenny Beard - one of Nashville's best known songwriters - who wrote most of the hits for Tracy Lawrence & Jeff Bates.
